About Aadhaar Validation
This tool validates Aadhaar numbers using the Verhoeff checksum algorithm, the same algorithm used by UIDAI. It checks both the 12-digit format and the mathematical checksum to detect typos and transcription errors.
๐ How Aadhaar numbers work
- Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identity number issued by UIDAI.
- The last digit is a checksum digit computed using the Verhoeff algorithm.
- The algorithm detects all single-digit errors and all adjacent transposition errors (e.g., swapping 45 โ 54).
- UIDAI officially recommends this algorithm for validation.
๐ Privacy & security
- All validation runs locally in your browser.
- No Aadhaar data is sent to any server.
- This tool does not verify if an Aadhaar number is actually issued โ only if it passes checksum validation.
- Never share your Aadhaar number publicly or with untrusted parties.

๐ How This Tool Works
The Verhoeff algorithm uses three lookup tables:
- D โ multiplication table for checksum computation
- P โ permutation table for positional weighting
- inverse โ for final check digit verification
The checksum is computed from right to left, processing each digit through the permutation and multiplication tables.
